About
Hi, my name’s Gemma (not my real name), I’m a trans woman in my 30s (fae/faer or she/her) and I run the Sheepish Book Club!
I used to love reading. It used to lift me up into a world where anything is possible. That all changed when I came out as trans, and with all the horrors facing our community and other marginalised groups in the real world, I found less and less time to read, and what I was reading started to feel more and more hollow, as I struggled to believe in a world where anything is possible.
in 2025 I discovered a bunch of trans authors and I was shocked. These books were exactly what I needed, proof that people like us can succeed, can create, can be understood. Where had these been all my life?
And so I wanted to give back. As I read more and more, I started doing mini-reviews on Bluesky, attempting to spread the word about some of these books that had touched me deep to my core. And here we are, with a blog of my own (ahhhhhhhhhh!) to formalise this and try and provide a more stable resource for others to find books they too can fall in love with.
There are no hard and fast rules here about what I’m going to do with it – I suspect it will be mostly trans or queer fiction to start with (although if they prove they can behave well I might look at the occasional cis-het title) but I may branch out at some point. Who knows, maybe I’ll even take the plunge myself and finish off a few chapters of my own book!
If you want to get in touch, I can be reached on Bluesky at @gemma.sheepishbook.club, via email at hello AT sheepishbook.club, or by shouting into the ether (efficacy not guaranteed).
I look forward to going on this journey with you all!
